Siemens Indonesia today furthers its collaboration with Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB) with an in-kind grant of Siemens Substation Automation and Protection Systems with a commercial value of IDR 290 million. As part of this grant, Siemens’ Substation Automation and Protection Systems will be used in the university's Power System and Distribution Laboratory.
The technology grant amplifies a similar in-kind software grant, Siemens Power System Planning and Simulation Software PSS®E and PSS®SINCAL, in November 2017 that has already benefited hundreds of electrical engineering students in the institution.
“The partnership with Siemens Indonesia will provide our students with access to cutting-edge technical equipment and software that can make them even more attractive to future employers,” said ITB’s School of Electrical Engineering and Informatics Dean, Dr. Tutun Juhana. “Close link between industry and academia is very important and will be fruitful to both parties. In SEEI, we are comprised of more than 130 faculty members having expertise in electrical power engineering, communications, controls and automation, and informatics. We prepare our students with the skills matching the industry needs. We are grateful to SIEMENS for this grant and look forward to continuing our partnership in the future.”
The Substation Automation and Protection Systems grant are intended to better prepare students and graduates for the complex and competitive substation automation market and with that also creating a solid foundation for further Smart Grid technologies. ITB students will have access to SIPROTEC 5 and Reyrolle protection devices and SICAM PAS substation automation systems. With the equipment and software in the laboratory, students will be able to simulate operation of a real substation and to detect and prevent faults in the electrical system.
