Siemens and OMV become partners in a project for heavy-duty electric vehicle charging stations

5. listopadu 2025

  • Solutions for reducing CO2 emissions generated by heavy-duty vehicle traffic and logistics companies
  • Charging infrastructure and operation adapted to the logistics sector
  • eDepots (electric charging stations) with complete solutions for simple and sustainable electrification
  • Initial implementation in Austria, Romania, Slovakia, and Hungary

Siemens AG Austria and OMV AG have signed a cooperation agreement to reduce CO2 emissions generated by heavy-duty vehicle traffic and logistics companies. "We want to implement innovative and efficient solutions together for the electrification of heavy-duty vehicle fleets, which not only overcome current technological challenges but also pave the way for future mobility solutions," says Gerrit Pürstl, who leads the eMobility domain at Siemens AG. "This partnership marks another milestone in our effort to transform bus and heavy-duty vehicle traffic in Europe into a more environmentally friendly one."

Electric propulsion plays an increasingly important role in heavy-duty vehicle traffic. The number of electric buses and trucks has grown significantly in recent years, and operators of such vehicles need appropriate charging options.

This is what the memorandum of understanding between Siemens AG and OMV AG aims to achieve. The two companies intend to provide innovative and safe charging solutions for the future – so-called eDepots – to meet sustainable mobility requirements. These offer numerous advantages to fleet operators, especially in the transportation and logistics sector. "By combining our forces and expertise, through electric stations managed by OMV AG, we offer complete intelligent solutions. Through this initiative, we want to make the transition to electric mobility as easy as possible for customers," emphasizes Peter Vysny, Vice President eMobility OMV AG.

By using the eDepots solution, oriented towards modern heavy-duty vehicles, companies in the sector have the possibility not only to significantly reduce operational costs and CO2 emissions but also to increase fleet availability. OMV AG focuses on integrated eDepots solutions, which include a wide range of services – from infrastructure planning to charging station installation, to grid usage optimization and detailed analytics. Thus, the vehicle fleet can be electrified in a simple, efficient, and sustainable way with the help of eDepots.

The cooperation between Siemens AG and OMV AG will be implemented in a pilot phase in Austria, Romania, Slovakia, and Hungary.
