Solar power boasts energy efficiency

Siemens' new Yatala research and manufacturing facility, which opened in 2018, has gone green through the installation of 120 solar panels.

This upgrade to the building’s infrastructure will help the facility become more energy efficient and reduce carbon emissions by 50,701 kilograms per year – the equivalent of 838 tree seedlings grown for 10 years.

This is a significant upgrade at the factory which manufactures Fusesaver™, an innovative Australian product helping eliminate up to 80 percent of sustained electricity outages on rural networks in over 35 countries and counting. The factory is also home to the new Compact Recloser that is also being exported globally.

Speaking on the energy efficiency upgrades, Dr. Brett Watson, one of the co-founders of Fusesaver™ and head of the Yatala facility said: “Invention and innovation is at the heart of everything we do at this facility. From high-tech product design and prototyping to smart manufacturing that supports global growth, we are driven by our aim to create a sustainable future.”

“It is only fitting that we look at the environment that supports this drive and ensure it is the perfect place for our people – one they are proud to call their own. I’m pleased that our products play a key role in global energy networks and that through our action to become more energy efficient, we can play a role in helping reduce carbon emissions.”

The Yatala factory is home to around 30 employees. It was inaugurated in 2018 by Cameron Dick, Queensland’s Minister for State Development, Manufacturing, Infrastructure and Planning.
