Siemens Indonesia empowers future engineers with University Initiative Program

1 de octubre de 2024
Jakarta, Indonesia

Siemens Indonesia proudly announces the successful launch of its University Initiative Program, a strategic effort to enhance education quality, skill development, and sustainability in Indonesia. This initiative aligns with Indonesia’s ambitious goal to become one of the top five global economies by 2045, achieve industrialized nation status, and promote sustainable development practices.

In December 2022, Siemens Indonesia began this transformative journey. Today, we partner with around ten educational institutions across Indonesia to enhance the readiness of future Indonesian engineers through expert seminars and certifications, technology donations, internships and apprenticeships, and research and development in electrification, automation, and digitalization.

Expert Seminars and Certifications

Siemens provides specialized training led by industry experts to equip students with advanced knowledge and skills. The Siemens Mechatronic Systems Certification Program (SMSCP) combines the German dual training system with Siemens’ expertise, focusing on mechatronics, system understanding, troubleshooting, and problem-solving. Siemens collaborates with with the Swiss German University (SGU) and Sekolah Menengah Teknologi Industri Yogyakarta to offer SMSCP certifications, preparing students for success in modern, automated industries.

Technology Donations

Siemens Indonesia aims to equip students with the skills needed with access to advanced technologies and practical training. In January 2022, Siemens awarded an in-kind technology grant worth IDR 300 million to Institut Teknologi PLN, including Medium-voltage Switchgear and Distribution Systems for their Power System Laboratory. In February 2024, Universitas Indonesia received a software grant valued at 60,000 Euros, which included the Siemens PSS®SINCAL Power System Planning and Simulation Software to support power system planning, design, and operation. Additionally, in February 2024, Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember received the Siemens PSS®SINCAL software to enhance their curriculum and improve students’ skills in electrical design and power network planning.

Internships and Apprenticeships

To help students gain practical experience, Siemens offers hands-on internships and apprenticeships. The Siemens Indonesia Engineering Trainee Program is a twelve-month initiative combining theoretical knowledge with practical experience, including a 2-month orientation and job rotation. This program bridges the gap between academic knowledge and industry needs, equipping graduates with essential technical skills, critical thinking, problem-solving, and project management capabilities. Siemens Indonesia was among the first companies to join the German Dual Vocational Education and Training (GD-TVET) program in collaboration with the German-Indonesian Chamber of Industry and Commerce (EKONID). This partnership offers students at SMK Negeri 26 Jakarta practical training and theoretical education in industrial mechatronics, modeled after the successful German dual education system.

Research Collaborations

Siemens partners with universities on research projects to promote innovation and practical solutions in electrification, automation, and digitalization. In August 2023, Siemens began collaborating with Institut Teknologi Bandung on the Digital Twin Ecosystems Program (D2TEP) to accelerate the development of ffactory models and simulations. In February 2024, Siemens collaborated with Swiss German University on a joint study on emerging cybersecurity technologies, aiming to enhance Indonesia’s industrial resilience and competitive advantage.

Commitment to Education

“Siemens Indonesia is committed to enhacing education quality in Indonesia. By investing in the development of future engineers, we not only foster individual career growth but also help to support Indonesia’s economic and industrial advancement,” said Surya Fitri, President Director and CEO of PT Siemens Indonesia.
