The SENTRON 3QD2 solid-state circuit breaker and the SIRIUS 3RF5 switchgear are now available for DC applications.
Siemens’ new solutions address the growing demands of industrial switching technology. The newly launched solid-state circuit breaker, based on intelligent protection algorithms, is capable of interrupting short circuits in the microsecond range—up to a thousand times faster than conventional systems. This is essential for the operation of direct current (DC) networks and significantly increases the level of protection as well as system availability.
The compact, multifunctional, configurable SENTRON 3QD2 combines protection, switching, monitoring, and energy management functions, replacing multiple separate devices and providing significant space savings. Thanks to its maintenance-free design and the absence of mechanical wear parts, it guarantees a long service life and maximum operational reliability, making it ideal for use in critical infrastructure applications.

This device is complemented by the SIRIUS 3RF5 solid-state switch (relay), which has no moving parts and uses semiconductors to control circuits, making it the first solution of its kind for DC applications. Designed specifically for high-frequency switching of resistive loads, it offers a low-wear, durable solution that increases the efficiency and availability of industrial equipment.
The SIRIUS 3RF5 device is also being launched with the Siemens EcoTech certification, which signifies sustainability.
First unveiled at the Hannover Messe 2026 industrial trade show, these solutions—which can be integrated into SIVACON S8 low-voltage switchgear or SIVACON 8PS busbar systems—will serve in facilities requiring high power.
