Siemens built grid connection for Indonesia wind farms

Siemens Indonesia’s Energy Management Division has secured a contract for Indonesian Independent Power Producer (IPP) PT Energi Bayu Jeneponto, a subsidiary of Vena Energy, for complete grid connection electrical package that includes 150kV grid connection, 33kV Medium voltage panels, transformers and Substation Automation System (SAS) at the 72-megawatt Tolo Wind Farm. Siemens Indonesia has completed the grid connection electrical package scope on schedule. Located in Jeneponto on the south-coast of the central Indonesian island Sulawesi. The wind farm will be capable of generating clean power sufficient to power nearly 150,000 homes, and is also expected to support the Indonesia’s renewable energy targets of 23 percent by 2025.

Tolo wind farm, built on 60 hectares of land, is powered by 20 units of Siemens Gamesa’s SWT-3.6-130 direct-drive turbines and two Siemens transformer units each with capacity of 45-megavolt amperes (MVA). It will be connected to Sulawesi’s energy grid via a local substation and a purpose-built 150 kilovolt (kV) transmission line. For this project, Siemens’ scope of supply includes engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) as well as operations and maintenance (O&M).

The Indonesia state-power-utility PLN receives additional power from this renewable energy source within a very short delivery time of eight months. Siemens delivered reliable end-to-end solutions from a single source to the IPP PT Energi Bayu Jeneponto. This solution includes equipments such as power control and automation, grid connections, transformers, systems engineering, and commissioning.

As part of the 35-gigawatt (GW) electricity program, the Government of Indonesia plans to build over 700 transmissions lines for about 46,500 kilometers and more than 1,300 substations with an average capacity of 100 MVA. In 2018, Siemens had successfully energized sixteen high voltage substations with a range from 150kV up to 500kV in various locations like Jakarta, West Java, North Sumatra, South Kalimantan and South Sulawesi.
