The winners of the award for technology journalists and content creators have been announced.

The possibilities for utilizing and applying artificial intelligence were primarily at the center of this year’s Siemens Media Award entries. The domestic award ceremony for the press award was held this time on the evening of March 25, where the work of journalists and content creators producing particularly high-quality work in the field of technology was recognized.

For the competition announced under the title “Technology with Purpose,” entries were once again invited for media content published between February 1, 2024 and February 28, 2025 that highlights how technology supports sustainability or the development of the economy and society. The international company’s annual press award is presented, in addition to Hungary, in eight other Central and Eastern European countries (Austria, Bulgaria, the Czech Republic, Croatia, Poland, Serbia, Slovakia and Slovenia).

This year, a total of 42 entries were submitted by 17 applicants, which were once again evaluated by an independent professional jury. The jury consisted of the multiple award-winning Gyöngyi Sági, owner and editor-in-chief of digitrendi.hu, Enikő Vass, a communications professional who has also received several journalism awards, and Márk Arató, Head of Communications at Siemens Zrt. The jury members also evaluated the content based on its relevance, novelty, style and the value added to the topic by the author.

The first-place award was once again won this year by Judit Kis, doubling her success from last year. Her article published on Forbes.hu, titled Hungarian success shows what AI can bring to agriculture, presented the operation of Proofminder, a Hungarian artificial intelligence-supported machine vision technology platform used on four continents. Proofminder helps farmers see the base and leaves of every plant on their land, as well as any possible diseases, allowing them to intervene in a targeted manner.

The other two Media Award recognitions were also earned by their creators with similar topics. István Fülöp’s article Precision farming is, to a certain extent, a step back in time – what can AI do in agriculture today?, published on HVG360, also focused on the agricultural functions of AI algorithms. Csaba Gyetván, meanwhile, explored the possibilities of recycling biowaste and the process of bioenergy production in his video titled This is how our food waste becomes heating, electricity and orchids, published on his own YouTube channel.

The jury also presented two additional special awards: Nóra Radó’s article published on Qubit+, titled I had such a good conversation with Chandler Bing that I got off the tram at the wrong stop, explored the experience of conversing with virtual characters, something that was considered science fiction only a few years ago. The other recognition went to the special issue titled GLAMOUR BOOK – Tech Era, published in March 2024, which was accepted by Edina Juhász, GLAMOUR editor and technology journalist.

The five award-winning works also advanced to Siemens’ regional competition, where they will be compared by the international jury with the selected winners of the press awards from the other eight countries. The five best applicants selected from the region will be invited to the Concordia Ball, a journalists’ event in Vienna, where the winner of the competition will be announced and rewarded with two tickets to the Salzburg Festival.
