In increasingly complex building management environments where continuous operation and safety are both critical—such as in healthcare facilities, data centers, or multi-site facilities—traditional fire protection based on periodic inspections has limited ability to manage risks. Systems must provide real-time monitoring and response, as well as immediate intervention, while minimizing false alarms and operational disruptions.
Siemens’ new smoke detectors help achieve this. The proactive, intelligent, networked approach of the new Sinteso Nova and Cerberus Nova represents a next step toward autonomous buildings.
Continuous self-monitoring, real-time surveillance, and protection against obstruction and insects
The fully IoT-based new smoke detectors are built on Siemens’ automated, non-intrusive testing technology. This solution performs continuous self-checks—which operators can customize to occur as frequently as daily—without interrupting system operation or disturbing building occupants. This is a major advantage in facilities particularly sensitive to downtime (e.g., data centers, critical IT and electrical systems) as well as in continuously operated public institutions (e.g., hospitals, airports), while it can also be useful in locations that are difficult to maintain.
The new generation of smoke detectors features anti-masking protection, which alerts to intentional tampering or accidental interference, such as during renovations. In addition, each detector is protected by an insect screen. The condition of this screen is continuously monitored, and an alert is sent via the monitoring system if necessary.
Smoke Entry Supervision (SES) further ensures that risks can be identified at an early stage and that security personnel can intervene in a timely manner, thereby enabling high availability and operational safety. This is complemented by ASAplus technology, which provides multi-wavelength, optical, and dual thermal detection, minimizing false alarms and reducing the number of unnecessary evacuations.
Cloud-based integration
Real-time monitoring thus enables the use of remote diagnostics and predictive maintenance functions. By using cloud-based monitoring and management applications, such as the Building X portfolio, operators can integrate fire detection with automation, access control, and CCTV systems, while managing information from different buildings on a single platform, comparing it, and making data-driven decisions. This provides them with a comprehensive view of the building portfolio and ensures a consistent level of security, even if the sites are scattered or located far apart.
The new detectors, now available on the Hungarian market, are compatible with existing fire alarm control panels, allowing for a phased system upgrade without the need to replace all devices immediately. Plug-and-play integration and automatic configuration transfer further reduce installation time.
The Sinteso Nova and Cerberus Nova detectors feature the Siemens EcoTech certification, which signifies sustainability, and are part of the Siemens Xcelerator open digital platform.
