Siemens launches free online Tool for building energy performance classification

6 ottobre 2025

  • Available in Romanian, Siemens' Energy Performance Classification Tool delivers rapid energy performance assessments for buildings of all types. The evaluation is based on key data points, including existing automation and control systems, along with the building's current energy management infrastructure.
  • The tool categorizes buildings into four energy efficiency classes: Class A: High Performance, Class B: Advanced Performance, Class C: Standard, Class D: Inefficient.
  • This assessment tool strictly complies to the evaluation methodology outlined in the BACS standard (EN ISO 52120-1) and fully complies with Nearly zero-emission building (nZEB) requirements for new construction.

Global projections indicate that by 2050, the world's population will reach 9.7 billion people, with individuals spending approximately 90% of their time indoors (Source: UN data). Buildings currently account for 40% of primary energy consumption worldwide, and alarmingly, 75% of these structures operate at suboptimal energy efficiency levels (Source: Alliance To Save Energy, EU, UNEP, EPA). To address this challenge, Siemens has developed the Energy Performance Classification Tool, which serves as a comprehensive evaluation solution for both residential and non-residential properties, including offices, educational facilities, hospitals, hotels, restaurants, and retail spaces.

"Current assessments within the European Union reveal that 97% of buildings require renovation to improve both energy efficiency and indoor environmental quality," explains Daniel Barciuc, CEO of Siemens Romania. "At Siemens, we've adopted a holistic approach to building sustainability. Through our innovative solutions, we can transform energy-inefficient buildings into smart, high-performance ecosystems that can be monitored and managed remotely using sophisticated data analysis and interpretation tools."

Energy Performance Classification Tool evaluates various building automation systems, including heating control, domestic hot water management, cooling systems, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC). Users can access the platform through a secure login process, and based on their input data, receive a detailed report outlining their building's Building Automation and Control (BAC) efficiency classification, along with specific recommendations for energy efficiency improvements.

George Zapan, Business Unit Head of Siemens Building Products, notes, "The Nearly zero-emission building standard has become mandatory for all new construction and major renovation projects in our country. Siemens solutions not only meet but exceed this standard, optimizing building performance while enhancing occupant comfort, productivity, and safety. Our comprehensive building product portfolio encompasses advanced HVAC automation systems, state-of-the-art fire detection and protection solutions, and robust cybersecurity measures. These components seamlessly integrate into our sophisticated Desigo CC or Cerberus DMS management platforms."
