Signing of Memorandum of Understanding between Swiss German University and Siemens Indonesia

22. augusta 2022
Jakarta, Indonesia

SGU Mechatronics and PT Siemens Indonesia signed an MoU to support education standards on August 22, 2022, at the Swiss German University campus.

It cannot be denied that the development of the Industry 4.0 revolution era has transformed many aspects of Human Resources (HR). Simply put, the industrial revolution 4.0 is a transformation effort toward improvement. This phenomenon is often encountered in daily life and in HR development across companies. Many companies have begun taking steps through updates and innovations relevant to the industrial era.

Therefore, Swiss German University (SGU), as the first international university in Indonesia, helps ensure its students are sensitive to global-level changes. In response, SGU’s Mechatronics study program collaborates with PT Siemens Indonesia to provide the required educational standards. This collaboration was marked by the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on Monday, August 22, 2022, at the Swiss German University campus in Alam Sutera.

The event was attended by several SGU leaders, including Dr. rer. nat. Filiana Santoso as Rector of SGU, Dr. Irvan S. Kartawiria, S.T., M.Sc as Vice Rector Academic, Chris Kanter as Chairman of SGU’s Board of Founders, and Evan Kanter – Trustee of SGU’s School Board. Also present were Dr. Lamine Jendoubi – President Director and CEO of Siemens Indonesia, Hong Lei – Head of Digital Industries Siemens Indonesia, and Efraim Mayer – Head of Promotion and Support at Siemens Indonesia.

The collaboration between SGU and Siemens Indonesia takes the form of a teaching program that meets Siemens’ quality standards, known as the Siemens Mechatronic System Certification Program (SMSCP). This is one of the world’s most prestigious certification programs related to the Industry 4.0 era. In today’s competitive landscape, certification is one way to demonstrate expertise.

As a German company with a major role in the industry, Siemens certifies and partners with educational institutions worldwide. SMSCP training is implemented in SGU’s four-year curriculum. Competency certificates offer many benefits for both workers and companies. For workers, they enhance global job market competitiveness and improve quality and productivity.

It is crucial for Indonesia’s HR sector to produce engineering graduates with the skills and expertise demanded by today’s workforce. The MoU signing is a great opportunity to collaborate with SGU and will benefit both students and Siemens. We hope this program helps students of the Faculty of Engineering and Information Technology, Mechatronics Study Program, to learn about mechatronic engineering technology. Graduates will receive internationally recognized Siemens industry certificates, giving them not only a competitive edge but also strong career opportunities in automation and manufacturing.

SGU is the first institution in Indonesia to receive SMSCP training. Every Mechatronics student at SGU will undergo training through modules on industrial tools, in-depth study of components, and practical implementation alongside theory.

Rector of Swiss German University, Dr. rer. nat. Filiana Santoso, stated that this certification gives SGU graduates a competitive advantage to enter the global industry workforce.

"SGU alumni will stand out, as they are equipped with international certificates officially endorsed by industry leaders. Our graduates will be more job-ready. SGU students also have better career opportunities in Germany, thanks to internships and thesis programs there. This international certification enables them to pursue careers not only in Indonesia but also in the global industry."
