Siemens Zrt. supplied comfort automation components to the sports park on Kerepesi Road.
The new 25,000-square-meter MTK Sports Park on Kerepesi Road was built on a 94,000-square-meter site as a brownfield investment on the premises of the former Taurus rubber factory in Budapest. Completed by May 2025, the complex can accommodate 4,900 people and is suitable not only for hosting training sessions and competitions of club sports – such as basketball, handball, volleyball, rhythmic gymnastics, fencing, and football – including television broadcasts, but will also serve as a venue for exhibitions, conferences, concerts, and leisure events.

The energy management of the sports park, built in less than two years, is unique: water extracted from thermal wells 1,300 meters deep is used for the building’s heating and hot water systems, whose energy demand is covered by nearly one thousand solar panels with a total nominal capacity of 500 kWp.
For the details ensuring the circulation of this energy, the most advanced components currently available were also selected. Siemens Zrt., through its partner Épületautomatika Kft., supplied 31 intelligent valves to the air handling units and heating centers of the sports complex, as well as to the fan-coil systems responsible for heating the indoor courts.
These communication-capable valves, which are considered new even internationally, can connect to the building management systems controlling the rest of the building, allowing them to be remotely monitored and controlled through these systems or even via an independent cloud connection. Despite their complex functions, their installation and commissioning are particularly simple: with the help of a user-friendly smartphone application, even a mechanical installer without an IT background can configure their parameters.
The technology company also supplied an additional 29 butterfly valves and 46 motorized pressure-independent control valves (PICVs). These mechanical valves, equipped with an integrated differential pressure controller, automatically maintain the set flow rate regardless of pressure fluctuations occurring in the system, eliminating the need for additional balancing fittings. This means, for example, that they can automatically maintain the amount of water flowing through a pipe used for heating at a set level, regardless of how much the rest of the system requires at any given time.

The world of sports facilities is not unfamiliar to Siemens Zrt.: its medium- and low-voltage power distribution solutions are used, for example, by the National Athletics Centre in Budapest, the Pick Arena in Szeged, and the Katalin Kovács National Kayak-Canoe Academy for youth development in Sukoró.
