  • Knowledge and new technologies are key to addressing the challenges facing our planet.
  • More than 90 percent of Siemens’ portfolio consists of products that enable a positive impact on sustainability.
  • Innovative Siemens products sold in fiscal 2023 alone will prevent CO2 emissions exceeding the total emissions of the Netherlands.

“At a time when we are witnessing numerous challenges in the global economy, geopolitical developments, and climate change, the need to accelerate digital and sustainable transformation has never been greater. Knowledge and new technologies are key to addressing the challenges facing our planet,” emphasized Medeja Lončar, President of Siemens Serbia, at this year’s Kopaonik Business Forum, adding that when it comes to caring for the planet, we should be guided by an ‘eco’ system rather than an ‘ego’ system.

During the panel on the Action Plan for Serbia’s Green Transition, the Siemens executive highlighted that the company has reduced the CO2 footprint of its own operations by 50 percent compared with 2019 and aims to reduce it by 90 percent by 2030. “Innovative technology plays a key role in creating a sustainable future. The tangible impact of responsible business practices on sustainability—and therefore on all our lives—is reflected in the fact that Siemens products sold in fiscal 2023 alone will avoid approximately 190 million metric tons of CO2-equivalent emissions over their lifetime. This exceeds the annual emissions of an entire country such as the Netherlands,” said Lončar, referring to findings from Siemens’ global Sustainability Report for fiscal 2023.

According to her, preserving the planet requires all of us to change our habits. “The future depends on all of us—institutions, organizations, companies, and individuals alike—through the way we treat nature, society, and conduct our business,” said the head of Siemens in Serbia.

She also recalled that Siemens was one of the first global companies to commit, as early as 2015, to becoming carbon neutral by 2030, with an additional target under its DEGREE framework to reduce CO2 emissions throughout its supply chain by 20 percent by that date. The importance of knowledge for Siemens is reflected in the company’s investment of €416 million during fiscal 2023 in a culture of lifelong learning, helping ensure sustainable employability in a rapidly changing labor market.
