In an increasingly automated and connected infrastructure, it is important to ensure high system availability and optimize energy consumption while protecting people, buildings and plants. For this reason, PT. Siemens Indonesia with Indonesia Association of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (HAEI) hosted a seminar with the theme “Safety and Energy Efficiency in Low-Voltage Electrical Installations” in Jakarta, today.

Chairman of HAEI, Ir. Achmad Sutowo Sutopo said, “It is important to make the Indonesian electrical engineering community aware of the importance of standard-compliant power distribution systems and electrical installations to avoid accidents and massive losses.”

Together with HAEI, Siemens highlighted the importance of the IEC61439 series of standards set by the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) as the benchmark for the design, execution, and maintenance of low-voltage switchgear and controlgear assemblies such as low-voltage switchboard and industrial control panels. The IEC standards help to ensure safe electrical installation in Indonesia.

To support the electrical designers to reliably plan and dimension their power distribution systems in accordance with the relevant IEC standards, Siemens provides Simaris planning tools. “With the increasing complexity of electric power distribution planning for industrial plants, infrastructure projects and buildings, our innovative SIMARIS planning tools effectively support the planning process to enable electrical designers to work more efficiently. This reduces time and expenditure for the overall planning of a power distribution system,” explained Khalil Fergani, Head of Low Voltage Products - Smart Infrastructure, Siemens Indonesia.

SIMARIS planning tools set a benchmark in planning efficiency. They provide valuable support in dimensioning the electric power distribution system and determine the equipment and distribution boards required. The planning tools covers three aspects, SIMARIS project which is useful for determining the space requirements of distribution boards and the budget, and for generating specifications. SIMARIS design for network calculation and dimensioning including a selection of all protection devices. Lastly, SIMARIS curves for visualizing characteristic tripping curves as well as let-through current and let-through energy curves.

At the seminar, Siemens also introduced one of its latest technology for low-voltage electrical products, Arc Fault Detection Device (AFDD). This technology is a compact and proven solution for detecting arc faults and prevent electric fires. The new standard IEC also strongly recommends the installation of AFD units in specific locations of use as the recognized state-of-the-art technology. HAEI and Siemens agree that safety and efficiency is the utmost importance in planning low-voltage electrical assemblies and installations and therefore an adequate understanding of the proper concept and knowledge is necessary.
