Siemens’ new packaged, pre-engineered Microgrid Integrated Switchboard (MIS) solution combines power distribution, protection, automation, and intelligent microgrid control into a single platform. This factory-integrated, tested, and standardized solution helps enable faster deployment of distributed energy resources (DERs) for U.S. organizations seeking to improve resilience while also reducing project risk and implementation timelines.
Powered by microgrid control using SICAM A8000, the MIS solution is designed to monitor, control, and optimize DERs including utility connections, generators, battery energy storage systems, and solar photovoltaics. The solution enables seamless transitions between grid-connected and island operations, helping facilities maintain critical operations during grid disturbances. Its flexible, vendor-agnostic architecture gives customers the freedom to integrate DER assets from multiple suppliers, helping them select the technologies that best fit their operational and energy goals.
“Energy resilience has become a business imperative, yet customers need to navigate growing energy complexity without adding operational burdens,” said Jonathan Hill, President of Electrification and Automation at Siemens Smart Infrastructure USA. “The Microgrid Integrated Switchboard brings together Siemens’ expertise in power distribution and microgrid automation, combining the intelligence of a microgrid controller with the reliability of Siemens power distribution equipment in one standardized, scalable solution. This gives customers a simpler path to deploy microgrids faster, reduce complexity, and operate with greater confidence.”
Additionally, the MIS solution’s cybersecurity features include role-based access control, encryption, and network security capabilities. And by combining preconfigured controls with pre-engineered, factory-tested distribution equipment, the solution reduces on-site system integration time and complexity, helping customers streamline project execution and commission at-scale.
The MIS solution is designed for a wide range of applications, including commercial facilities, manufacturing sites, healthcare campuses, data centers, government and municipal facilities, higher education institutions, and other organizations seeking greater energy resilience and operational flexibility.
