TIA Portal version 20: Delivers maximum performance for all usersSiemens, a leading technology company, will present the latest version of the TIA Portal engineering environment at the Smart Production Solutions (SPS) trade fair in Nuremberg, Germany. This engineering environment streamlines industrial automation processes, facilitates project work, and increases application development efficiency, enabling faster project execution. TIA Portal V20 focuses on improving performance and efficiency for users, helping shorten time-to-market, which contributes to increased competitiveness and flexible adaptation to rapidly changing markets. The new version of TIA Portal V20 integrates new programmable logic controllers (PLCs).Rainer Brehm, CEO of Industrial Automation at Siemens, explains: “Fully integrated automation offered in the TIA portfolio is the foundation for expansion toward software-defined automation. With TIA Portal Version 20, users can boost performance across all areas and leverage the latest PLC features – including artificial intelligence, integrated testing, and enhanced security.”
Latest PLC integration boosts performance and securitySiemens addresses the challenges of increasing industrial production efficiency across its entire Siemens Simatic controller portfolio. TIA Portal V20 offers extended capabilities such as support for new PLCs with advanced Motion Control features and integrated Safety functions, including the latest S7-1200 G2 controller. It also enhances the performance of standard S7-1511/S7-1513 PLCs through new central processing units in the S7-1500 series. This applies to technology controllers with integrated Motion Control functions and the new software controller class. All of them support human-readable textual representation of program code with graphical support in TIA Portal V20. This enables easy use of external tools such as GIT or Beyond Compare, as well as code generation, making programming more convenient for users. Security features are also continuously improved. With TIA Portal V20, Simatic PLCs can be connected to a central user management system on the shop floor at the server level within the production facility. User Management Access Control (UMAC) allows service technicians easy access to devices on the shop floor using standard corporate credentials — without compromising security. UMAC is linked to the customer’s identity provider service, such as Microsoft Active Directory or Azure ID. This enables administrators to efficiently manage automation device permissions in a standardized way, just like with IT infrastructure applications.
Performance improvements across all areasIn addition to new PLC compatibility, enhanced program optimization options and faster runtime analysis for service and maintenance have been implemented, contributing to increased production efficiency. The new version also offers performance improvements in multi-location engineering: optimized data exchange between TIA Portal, TIA Portal Cloud, and Project Server Cloud ensures seamless collaboration across all platforms. This includes edge apps on EDGE-class devices and automatic cloud backups, which provide visibility into changes or updates made. Another step toward performance improvement is the TIA Portal Test Suite, which uses regression testing to ensure reliable code quality for machine designs. TIA Portal V20 supports S7 software testing, including sequential testing.
Siemens Industrial Copilot seamlessly integrates generative artificial intelligence with TIA Portal to support automation engineers in their daily work. The new version also ensures support for important feature and security updates.
