  • New automated component model extraction solution helps reduce frequency response function (FRF) measurement time by up to 93 percent
  • Industrialized, ISO 20270-compliant workflow delivers excellent repeatability for virtual noise, vibration and harshness (NVH) integration
  • Enables earlier, more reliable Digital Twin-driven system level NVH prediction

Siemens today announced a new automated software and hardware solution that helps engineers characterize noise and vibration behavior of mechanical components in hours rather than days. Siemens’ new automated component model extraction solution industrializes blocked force extraction in accordance with ISO 20270 and supports more accurate system-level NVH prediction through virtual prototyping.

Component characterization is traditionally slow, manual and highly dependent on specialist expertise. Engineers often spend days performing measurements that are difficult to repeat consistently, introducing uncertainty into downstream simulation and system integration. The new solution for automated component model extraction addresses these challenges by automating both measurement and processing in a controlled, operator-independent workflow.

Automated component model extraction is an integrated hardware-and-software solution that automatically extracts ISO 20270-compliant component models for virtual NVH development

Developed in collaboration with Bosch, the solution builds on Bosch’s patented predictiveVIA technology and is delivered by Siemens as the sole industrialized and scalable implementation. It pairs automated test benches with dedicated software to produce high-quality, simulation-ready component models that can be reused across multiple system variants.

Automated component model extraction uses a self-measuring fixture where rigid virtual-point adapters carry a permanently mounted set of shakers and accelerometers, an automation control unit wired through an amplifier and a Simcenter SCADAS frontend to a laptop running Simcenter Testlab

“Automated component model extraction helps customers turn a complex, expert-driven process into a scalable engineering capability,” said Sam Mahalingam, executive vice president and head of simulation software, Siemens. “By combining automated testing with simulation-ready workflows and high-quality noise and vibration data, engineers can shift their focus from collecting data to gaining insights from it, enabling greater confidence in NVH performance earlier in development.”

"Automated component model extraction brings the speed, precision, and consistency needed to industrialize blocked force testing,” said Christian Sperrle, director – product management; “Vehicle Motion” division, Bosch USA. “By enabling automated, repeatable measurements across global test facilities, it provides suppliers and OEMs with a common data foundation for digital NVH engineering. The result is faster decision making, more reliable virtual development, and a cost-effective path to large-scale blocked force testing that is independent of individual user expertise.”

By removing manual variability, automated component model extraction reduces FRF measurement time by 93 percent compared to conventional methods while delivering 100 percent accuracy and repeatability across component variants. This repeatable data foundation supports earlier and more reliable Digital Twin-based system validation, reducing dependence on physical prototypes and accelerating time-to-market.

As all instrumentation lives on the fixture, nothing is attached to the component under test. Swapping a part means unbolting the previous unit and bolting on the next, enabling genuine batch throughput

Siemens’ new automated component model extraction solution is part of the Simcenter physical testing portfolio and includes Simcenter™ Testlab™ software, Simcenter™ SCADAS™ hardware and Simcenter™ for Qsources™ hardware. It supports both test-based and CAE-based representations of components such as electric motors, pumps, compressors, steering systems and actuators for virtual system integration.
